Be sure to talk with your academic advisor.

Internships
The department views internships and apprenticeships as vital learning experiences. The time spent applying professional knowledge and skills complements in-class instruction. Students work closely with the Career Center to indentify appropriate opportunities.

On-campus work opportunites also exist for Art, Art History and Visual Communications majors through work study, institutional and scholarship jobs in the University Art Gallery, University Publications, FAP, Detours Magazine, The Index and University Press.

Visualize your future

Come join us and learn what being an artist, designer, art historian or educator can mean to you and your future.

Our primary mission is to facilitate learning, experimentation, research, and understanding of art. Through Truman’s knowledgeable and talented faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and one-on-one instruction, Art majors are guided, challenged, and encouraged to develop into highly skilled professionals in any of our four areas of specialty: Art Education, Art History, Studio Art, and Visual Communications.

Why Truman?

"The general experience over the years of working with extremely dedicated and challenging professors has been the most valuable for me. In combination with a lot of the outside of class experiences I've had with my classmates (going on AIGA trips, working together outside of class, etc), it has created a really open environment where I've felt more comfortable learning and sharing ideas than in any other of my courses. I think those experiences are what I will remember the most about the program."

Michelle Krewett - 2009 Visual Communications graduate

The Truman Art faculty are involved in a range of professional and service activities and serve as role models for aspiring artists, designers, art historians, and educators. Their knowledge and talent make this Art Department second to none in the region. Graduates of our program are readily sought after by graduate schools, creative organizations, museums & galleries, and other arts organizations because of the talent, creative skills, and knowledge skill sets that have been fostered in our students.
